Club History:

Our Story...

I’m not exactly sure just when Dave Trumbauer and Jack Cherry organized what came to be called the “Worldwide Two-Cylinder Club” in Waterloo, Iowa, but by late 1986 the newsletter boasted of “2500 members… in 48 states in the U.S., and in England, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, Sweden, West Germany and Denmark.” In that same newsletter they talked about the volunteer Area Coordinators that were being appointed to organize activities in their respective geographical localities.
Ben Roby from near Columbus was appointed State Coordinator for the State of Ohio, and he called an organizational meeting at Plain City, Ohio in December, 1990, where it was agreed to divide the state into five districts. One of the districts consisted of northeastern Ohio and Tom Sherry from North Canton was made Area Coordinator for that district.
Tom got busy at organizing a Two-Cylinder Club Chapter by sending letters to every existing Two-Cylinder Worldwide Club member in his area inviting them to a preliminary meeting in Canton in February, 1991. There was an excellent turnout with an agreement to form a chapter, and a bylaws committee was appointed. This committee met at Tom’s house and hammered out the bylaws, which were based on those of the parent club.
The first meeting of the new Northeast Ohio Chapter of the Two-Cylinder Club was on April 28, 1991, where the by-laws were approved and the following officers were elected: President, Tom Sherry; 1st VP, Sam Moore; 2nd VP, Phil Maria; Secretary-Treasurer, Sarah Bosio; Historian, John Bondy; and Directors, Joe Bosio, John Foertch, Dan Thomas, John Highman, Dave Bright and Greg Stephens.
Two-Cylinder Worldwide approved our charter on May 12 and we were designated Chapter OH-1, or the first chapter in Ohio.
In January, 1993, Two-Cylinder Worldwide changed their minds about having local chapters and cut us off as a part of their organization. We held our first plow day at John and Glenice Corbett’s farm near Wooster in April, 1993, and on August, 21, new by-laws were approved and the erstwhile Chapter OH-1 became the Northeast Ohio Two Cylinder Club.
Every year since then, except for the last two when extremely wet weather canceled the plow days, the club has held a business meeting in February, a plow day in April, a fall get together at a member’s home, and a banquet and election of officers in November.
